5 seconds of summer – Invisible (meaning behind lyrics)

I wanted to write another post about my view of lyrics.

So here is the lyrics of 5 seconds of summer song “Invisible.”

Another day,
Of painted walls and football on the TV
No one sees me
I fade away,
Lost inside a memory of someone’s life
It wasn’t mine I was already missing before the night I left
Just me and my shadow and all of my regrets
Who am I? Who am I when I don’t know myself?
Who am I? Who am I?
Invisible Wasted days,
Dreaming of the times I know I can’t get back
Seems I just lost track
Looking on
As all of life’s colours seem to fade to grey
I just walked away I was already missing before the night I left
Just me and your shadow and all of my regrets
Who am I? Who am I when I don’t know myself?
Who am I? Who am I?
Invisible

Who am I? Who am I when I don’t know myself?
Who am I? Who am I?
Invisible
Who am I? Who am I when I don’t know myself?
Who am I? Who am I?
Invisible

Another day,
The walls are built to keep me safe
I can’t escape,
It’s too late

Here is the meaning that I hear:
My life is boring. Again I’m totally alone, watching TV. I would love to be someone else. Probably I have seen this person and I’m imagining how it would be to live his/her life.
Even in the crowd I feel invisible. Probably I feel invisible even when I’m with my friends.
I’m wasting time just by thinking about the things that I regret I have done. Dreaming about the times I felt amazing. Wishing I could bring them back, but I can’t. Seems like it’s never going to be the same. I will never feel happy again.
Probably the reason why I feel so depressed is because I built a wall just to keep myself away from pain. But this wall keeps me away from people and also from feelings that I dig for.

  1. Ash has said that the song was about a boy who ran away when nobody ever noticed him, and was never noticed afterwards, either.
